Rs 60-Crore Fraud Case: Shilpa Shetty Questioned by EoW for over 5 hours in Mumbai (AI/TIN)
Rs 60-Crore Fraud Case Against Shilpa Shetty: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty was questioned by Mumbai police for over 5 hours allegedly in the Rs 60-crore fraud case. The popular actress had submitted documents in the alleged Rs 60-crore fraud case linked to her defunct firm, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.
According to the sources, the Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Monday recorded Shilpa Shetty's statement in connection with the same case. However, no information has been made official yet in connection with her or her husband Raj Kundra's involvement in this case. It is to be noted here that statements from five people, including Raj Kundra, have been recorded so far.
Earlier in September, EOW had issued a lookout circular against the Bollywood actress and her husband on charges of fraud. Meanwhile, in August this year, a case was registered against actress Shilpa Shetty, her husband Raj Kundra and another person for allegedly cheating a businessman of over Rs 60 crore.
According to reports, Deepak Kothari, a businessman and director of Lotus Capital Financial Services Limited, filed a case against Shilpa Shetty. In the complaint, he claimed that the fraudulent activities occurred between 2015 and 2023. Kothari alleges that the couple took the money on the pretext of expanding their business, but used it for personal expenses.
According to Kothari, in 2015, Shilpa Shetty requested a loan of Rs 75 crore to expand her business. The proposed interest rate was 12 percent. However, she later allegedly asked him to treat the money as an investment rather than a loan, promising him monthly returns and principal repayment.
Kothari claimed he transferred Rs 31.95 crore under a share subscription agreement in April 2015 and Rs 28.53 crore under a supplementary agreement in September 2015. Kothari claimed that he has filed the case after repeated failed attempts to get the money back.
Shilpa and her lawyer, Prashant Patil, have denied the allegations and said they will present their version of events before the investigating agencies.
